SpaceRef.com was founded in the summer of 1999 with the goal of providing the best online space reference source available. It was a hobby project of its two founders, Marc Boucher and Keith Cowing. This hobby was a way to give something back to the space community and to help those interested in space. Because of the popularity of the service and interest from the business community the hobby became a business.
In addition to providing the online site the founders decided to actively get involved in sponsoring space related research projects such as donating the Arthur Clarke Mars Greenhouse to the Haughton-Mars Project and underwriting these educational webcasts from Devon Island in 2007.
