Sally Ride Science Festival
On April 25, local girls will be inspired to explore the exciting world of science at the Sally Ride Science Festival at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. The festival, presented by Sally Ride Science, is open to the public and runs from 11 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. The Sally Ride Science Festival, hosted by The Bobby B. Lyle School of Engineering at SMU, will bring together hundreds of upper elementary and middle school girls, parents and teachers for a day of science and socializing. The festival features discovery workshops for students given by local scientists and engineers, as well as workshops for parents and teachers on ways to support students' interests in science and math. A highlight of the festival is an inspiring talk by astronaut Stephanie Wilson, a veteran of two space shuttle missions and currently assigned to the crew of STS-131, targeted for launch in February 2010. The festival also includes lunch and a street fair with hands-on activities, booths, and music. An early registration fee of only $15 is available until March 26 (registration fee will increase to $20 on March 27).
