The ninth annual Design/Launch/Build Student CanSat Competition will be held June 7-9 in Burkett and Abilene, Texas. College and university teams from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Turkey, India and other natiuons will each launch a payload the approximate size of a large soda can via rocket to an altitude of 650 meters. Each CanSat must carry one large raw hen's egg intact from launch to landing in a deployable lander. During the flight and descent, GPS position and telemetry shall be displayed, in real-time, on a team-developed ground control station. In addition, each team must select one of four optional requirements. The mission and its requirements are designed to reflect key aspects of real world missions, including telemetry requirements, communications and autonomous operations. The goal is for all teams to experience, on a small scale, a typical aerospace program from preliminary design review to post-mission debrief.
