Media are invited to attend an event highlighting the 100th anniversary of NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, through an evening of music, dance, reflections and more. The Centennial Tribute event will be held on Thursday, May 18, at 7 p.m. EDT at Christopher Newport University's Ferguson Center for the Arts located at 1 Avenue of the Arts in Newport News, Virginia.

Reporters interested in attending the event or scheduling interviews with the show talent should contact Rob Wyman by phone at 757-912-2973 or by email at rob.wyman@nasa.gov no later than noon May 17.

Nationally recognized aviation and space journalist Miles O'Brien will be the Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Special guests will include former astronaut and Langley alumnus Leland Melvin, Nashville singer-songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman, the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Concert Band, local musician Karl Werne and dancers from Radford University in Radford, Virginia.

Founded as the nation's first civilian aeronautical research facility, Langley is NASA's original field center. The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, NASA's precursor, broke ground on its first laboratory at Langley on July 17, 1917. For a century, Langley's employees have been pioneers and innovators of aerospace and science research and development, expanding horizons, opening the frontiers of exploration and providing game-changing innovations across all of NASA's missions.

The Centennial Tribute is one of a number of special events planned throughout this anniversary year to celebrate Langley's storied legacy and soaring future.
