Date: Thursday, June 8, 2017

Location: 2318 Rayburn House Office Building, Washington, DC, US, 20515

The U.S. House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology will meet to consider the "American Space Commerce Free Enterprise Act of 2017," to be sponsored by Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas), Space Subcommittee Chairman Brian Babin (R-Texas) and Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-Okla.).
WHEN: 1:30 p.m. EST

The American Space Commerce Free Enterprise Act of 2017 simplifies and strengthens the outdated space-based remote sensing regulatory system. At the same time, this bill enhances U.S. compliance with international obligations, improves national security and removes regulatory barriers facing new and innovative space companies.
This bill will:

- Create a single authority for registration of nongovernmental space activities located at the Department of Commerce Office of Space Commerce
- Streamline existing regulatory processes
- Provide greater certainty to assure nongovernmental space activities conform to Outer Space Treaty obligations
- Address concerns that registered activities may pose a safety risk to existing federal government space systems
- Reform the space-based remote sensing regulatory process
Text of the bill can be found here.
Live streaming will be available on the committee's website and YouTube.
