Its goal is to provide a framework and model for an inspection process that will detect and eliminate defects as early as possible in the software life cycle.

NASA Software Process Improvement Guidebook - This document is a product of the NASA Software Program, an Agency-wide program to promote continual improvement of software engineering within NASA. The goals and strategies for this program are documented in the NASA Software Strategic Plan, July 13, 1995.
