SpaceRef - Exploration and Missions - Robotic Missions - Lunar - Clementine

  • A Clementine Collection of Lunar Images - This page contains a sampling of the 1.8 million images acquired by the Clementine spacecraft.. Naval Research Laboratory.

  • Albedo Map of the Moon - Clementine and the U.S. Geological Survey - About 50,000 Clementine images have been processed and mosaicked to produce a global map of the Moon's albedo (normalized brightness or reflectivity) at a wavelength of 750 nm. This provides the best albedo map produced to date for most of the far side of the Moon. Naval Research Laboratory.

  • Clementine - USGS Images of the Moon - The Clementine spacecraft successfully mapped the Moon with 4 cameras in 1994. From these new data it will be possible to map the mineralogy (rock types) of the entire Moon, a truly unprecedented feat in the history of planetary exploration. In addition to the multispectral mapping cameras the Clementine spacecraft also carried a laser altimeter whose data will make possible the first ever uniform global lunar topographic map.

  • Clementine Lunar Mission - Clementine's principal objective was to space qualify lightweight imaging sensors and component technologies for the next generation of Department of Defense (DoD) spacecraft. Clementine used the Moon, a near-Earth asteroid, and the spacecraft's Interstage Adapter (ISA) as targets to demonstrate lightweight component and sensor performance. As a secondary mission, Clementine returned valuable data of interest to the international civilian scientific sector. Naval Research Laboratory.

  • Clementine Mission - The 1994 Clementine mission mapped most of the lunar surface at a number of resolutions and wavelengths from UV to IR. This website at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center describes all aspects of this mission.

  • Clementine Mission Description - Clementine was a joint project between the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization and NASA. The objective of the mission was to test sensors and spacecraft components under extended exposure to the space environment and to make scientific observations of the Moon and the near-Earth asteroid 1620 Geographos.
