SpaceRef - Exploration and Missions - Robotic Missions - Weather Satellites

JASON-1 - Jason is an oceanography mission to monitor global ocean circulation, discover the tie between the oceans and atmosphere, improve global climate predictions, and monitor events such as El Nino conditions and ocean eddies. The satellite carries a radar altimeter and it is a follow-on mission to the TOPEX/Poseidon mission and will be launched in May 2000. [NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory]

Meteorological Operational satellites (MetOp) - METOP ESA and EUMETSAT are cooperating in the development of a series of polar-orbiting weather satellites that will replace the "morning meteorological satellites" currently being used in weather forecasting, starting in the year 2002. The MetOp satellites will carry instruments provided by ESA, Eumetsat, NOAA and the French space agency CNES.

Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) Satellites - This is a programme between ESA and EUMETSAT which will lead to a continuation and enhancement of the Meteosat mission.
