MIssion 1R was launched on 12 July 2000 aboard a Proton booster. Its prime cargo was the Service Module (aka "Zvezda"). The Service Module is the primary Russian station contribution and an early station living quarters. It provides life support system functions to all early elements until later hardware is added. It also provides primary docking port for Progress-type cargo resupply vehicles and propulsive attitude control and reboost capability for early ISS configurations.
