    Mission ISS-5A

    Mission Description:

    5AThe primary objective of STS-98 is ISS Assembly Flight ISS-5A, the delivery of the US Lab ("Destiny") module. Destiny will be launched with 5 system racks already installed inside of the module. Control Moment Gyroscopes will be activated with delivery of electronics in the Lab, thus providing electrically powered attitude control for ISS.

    This document contains detailed drawings of the EVA tools, external ISS structures, and other items associated with ISS assembly EVA activity required for ISS mission 5A.

  • Secure PMA2 to Z1.
  • Disconnect Lab LTA heater cables from Orbiter (2).
  • Remove Lab Passive CBM contamination cover.
  • SRMS attach Lab to Node 1.
  • Starboard EEATCS radiator cinches, winches and RTD removal.
  • Aft EEATCS radiator winch and RTD removal.
  • Deploy Aft EEATCS radiator (MCC).
  • Release SGANT (Ku ) gimbal locks
  • Remove Ku SGANT TRC MLI
  • Connect Lab LTA heaters to Node 1 (3).

    Flight 5A - EVA 2
  • Install Z1-Lab port power/data cables.
  • Disconnect U-jumper and vent.
  • Connect Z1/LAB NH3 umbilicals. (Loop A & B QDs 1, 3, 5, & 7)
  • Activate Port CIDs 1 & 2.
  • Remove/temp stow PDGF utility panel MMOD shields.
  • Install CIDs 3, 4, 5. (starboard)
  • Connect Z1/Lab stbd. power/data cables.
  • Install handrail 225 for TBD.
  • Install 3 loopback connectors.
  • Activate stbd CIDs 3 & 4.
  • Channel 2B powered up (IVA)
  • Install PDGF and VSC.
  • Reinstall PDGF utility panel MMOD shields.
  • Install Lab window shutter and gear box.
  • Activate Lab critical systems, SASA high data rate (S-band string 2)
  • Release PMA2 from Z1.
  • Remove Lab ACBM thermal cover and stow.
  • Checkout Lab fwd ACBM controllers, bolts, latches. (IVA/MCC)
  • Install gap spanner Node 1.
  • Install Lab WIFs

    Flight 5A - EVA 3
  • Berth PMA2 to Lab fwd CBM.
  • Install Lab slidewire.
  • Unstow and connect PMA2/Lab umbilicals (16)
  • Install space SASA on Z1 temp stow.
  • Deploy EEATCS stbd radiator. (MCC)
  • Checkout PMA2 shell heaters.
