The cover story is "Dive From Space," a project Rick Tumlinson is leading with a group of Foundationers. The team includes Jeff Fiege, Krysta Paradis, Allen Newcomb, John Carmack (Armadillo Aerospace CEO), Jeff Greason (XCOR Aerospace CEO), Jim Muncy, and others including former NASA flight surgeon Jonathan Clark. It is a great story of entrepreneurial risk and is featured in the Editor's introduction at the front of the magazine.
Quoting the Editor: "Would you like to bet on exactly how crazy these guys are? Because you can. We have just launched the PopSci Predictions Exchange, which means you now have the opportunity to go online and buy and sell propositions about the future of science and technology. You trade with virtual cash, but the prizes and acclaim are real. It is in the nature of outrageously bold ideas... that what visionaries predict seems ludicrously unlikely. But how unlikely? What are the changes these guys will actually complete that first dive by late 2009? What are the chances they'll ever deliver? ... the best way to answer these questions is to gather a community of motivated traders and get them to bet on the outcome."
Check it out, let's rally in support of our NewSpace friends and family!
