Canadian Space Agency to Participate in the 65th International Astronautical Congress held in Toronto

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) will participate in the 65th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) taking place in Toronto from September 29 to October 3, 2014.
The IAC is the premier and most comprehensive annual space conference in the world covering all areas of space activities. It is expected to attract up to 3000 international participants from industry, academia and government. In addition to plenary and technical sessions, the IAC includes a large-scale exhibition where countries showcase their national capabilities and interests, and industries promote their products and services. Operating under the theme “Our World Needs Space,” this year’s Congress is hosted by the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute (CASI).

The CSA will be participating in and organizing events open to the media during the week.
Please note that media representatives need to register for the conference in order to be admitted to the Congress.

Registration can be done online or at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) South Building on Level 600.

Monday, September 29

9:00 a.m. - IAC Opening ceremony will feature CSA astronauts Jeremy Hansen and David Saint-Jacques as Masters of Ceremony. The event will feature a presentation by Chris Hadfield and a performance by the Cirque du Soleil.

11:15 a.m. - Official Exhibition Opening by the Heads of Agencies.

Tuesday, September 30 

7:00 a.m. - Networking Breakfast for students and industry leaders. 12 students attending IAC 2014 thanks to the CSA Grants and Contributions Program will have the opportunity to network with industry leaders.

8:15 a.m. - Unveiling by the Royal Canadian Mint of a collector coin celebrating the CSA’s 25th anniversary.

9:30 a.m. - The Amazing Canadian Space Race. CSA astronauts David Saint-Jacques and Jeremy Hansen will embark on a race with a team of tweeps around the city of Toronto.

Wednesday, October 1

1:30 p.m. - Jeremy Hansen to address to a select audience of academia, business and special interest groups at DRDC.

7:30 p.m. - Jeremy Hansen will take part in a panel discussion for a very special edition of Planetary Radio Live, the Planetary Society’s weekly public radio and podcast series.
