NASA Glenn is offering guided tours of its world-class research facilities on select Saturdays of each month from April through October. The tour schedule and details are available on Glenn’s website.
A bus departs from NASA’s main gate every hour beginning at 9 a.m. and is followed by a stop at Glenn's Gift Shop. The last tour departs at noon.
On each 45-minute tour, visitors will see the laboratories where scientists and engineers develop propulsion, power and communications technologies for NASA aeronautics and space missions.
Each tour highlights behind-the-scenes visits to one of the center’s facilities:
April 14, come visit the Simulated Lunar Operations (SLOPE) Laboratory where exploration tires for rovers are tested.
May 12, visit the 10- by 10-foot Supersonic Wind Tunnel, which conducts propulsion testing at supersonic speeds.
June 9, take a trip to the Aero-Acoustic Propulsion Laboratory where aircraft noise-reduction ideas are developed and tested.
July 14, tour the virtual and augmented reality laboratories where Glenn researchers use augmented reality display devices for engineering, research and outreach.
Aug. 11, visit Glenn’s Photovoltaic Laboratory where NASA creates technology that can power everything from homes to spacecraft.
Sept. 8, explore Glenn’s Zero-G Facility where researchers test payloads in free fall for five seconds, dropping over 400 feet.
Oct. 13, trek to the 8- by 6-foot Supersonic Wind Tunnel where researchers test models of supersonic aircraft.
Tours are free and offered to all ages. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. Access to the Saturday tour program is limited to U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents. Other security restrictions apply. Most tour stops are wheelchair accessible. See website for details.
Throughout the year, anyone can visit the Great Lakes Science Center in downtown Cleveland, home to the NASA Glenn Visitor Center, where you will find interactive exhibits, space galleries and fun for the whole family.
