Status Report From: NASA Office of Inspector General
Posted: Wednesday, February 1, 2006

Editor's note: The following email has been sent to all NASA OIG employees.

The Integrity Committee of the President's Council on Integrity and Efficiency notified me that they have requested that the Office of Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development conduct an administrative investigation into allegations against me as the NASA Inspector General.  According to the Integrity Committee's letter, the allegations are that I "failed to investigate violations of safety concerns and retaliation by whistle-blowers."  Given that this is an official government investigation, everyone is encouraged to cooperate fully with the investigators.  There will be no NASA OIG management interference with this investigation.  If contacted by the investigators, please make yourself available for interview in a timely manner and provide access to official records under your control as requested.  Those who are contacted by the investigators should follow the guidance of the investigators as to whether the matters they have discussed with the investigators should be discussed with any other person.  In the event of media inquiries about the investigation, refer them to the Executive Officer, Madeline Chulumovich, as required by standard operating procedure.  I have delegated all responsibility for ensuring the facilitation of the investigation to the Deputy Inspector General, Tom Howard.  Should you have questions or concerns about the conduct of the investigation, please contact Tom or Counsel to the Inspector General, Frank LaRocca.
