Message from the Associate Director for Institutions and Research Solving the Institutional Support Budget Crunch: Ideas Wanted
"Every problem is an opportunity in disguise. These are words that have guided me for many years. The center has a very significant PROBLEM: our projected institutional support budget (determined by HQ) is inadequate to meet the current way do business.
As we look forward, we now have an OPPORTUNITY: redefine the way we accomplish our business, for significantly less cost, and still meet our program and project needs, provide for the health and safety of our work force and comply with our regulatory and legal requirements.
To solve this problem, I have chartered two independent teams to come up with options and potential solutions. In addition to these organized efforts, I want to solicit directly your ideas about how we might organize, structure and generally rethink how and what our institutional infrastructure should look like under the severe budget constraints we face.
If you have ideas or experiences that could help us answer these questions, please send them directly to me at Steven.F.Zornetzer@nasa.gov. Your responses will be most useful if submitted immediately and no later than April 4.
In order to make your inputs helpful, please provide them in a format in which you first define the problem you think you are solving, the solution you suggest and if possible how you would implement your suggestion. I am not simply looking for complaints about this or that. I am looking for constructive suggestions. I look forward to your inputs.
