File
Distributor
File Distributor is a system designed to reduce KU-Band usage
during Shuttle flights. The File Distributor achieves this by
reducing the number of times files must be uplinked to on-orbit
PGSC computers. The File Distributor consists of 2 parts: a
ground configuration tool, and a series of batch files. The batch
files are the only flight component. Ground operators use the
configuration tool to generate a list of files they want to uplink
to multiple on-orbit PGSC computers. The flight batch files use a
file generated on the ground to propagate these files to their
destinations. This saves many hours of operator time per flight,
and generates a considerable reduction in KU-Band usage during
the SpOC daily updates.
