The Redstone Scientific Information Center (RSIC) Closing Effective 30 September (UNCLASSIFIED)
ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING RSIC TRANSITION TO VIRTUAL
Effective 30 September 2019, the Redstone Scientific Information Center (RSIC) will close its facility and move to an all-online library model.
RSIC has served as Redstone Arsenal's hub of scientific and technical information for 57 years, becoming one of the best sources in the country for information on rocketry and aeronautics. However, as missions and resources change, RSIC must become more streamlined to meet the information needs of the Aviation and Missile Center as we move forward under the Army Futures Command.
The virtual RSIC will consist of online-only access to scientific and technical journals and ebooks, plus a repository for electronic versions of technical documents. The printed books and journals RSIC currently holds will be disposed of IAW applicable Army regulation; the printed technical documents (other than NASA documents) will be digitized and stored in the online document library. Access to online journal content should be available on 1 October; the electronic document repository will be brought online incrementally, with full availability by July 2021.
This action will have two primary impacts: 1) hard copies will no longer be available for circulation or copying (that is, no printed books, journals, or technical documents); and 2) library staff will no longer be available to assist with research questions or projects. Any library staff assistance will be limited to technical assistance only.
Organizations requesting online access to RSIC must have a signed support agreement with CCDC Aviation & Missile Center before access will be granted. A template for this agreement can be provided by contacting Greg Sturgeon, (256) 876-5196, email@example.com.
